Maha Kavi C. Subramanya Bharathi
   Dr. S. Vivekananthan was appointed as a lecturer in the Department in October, 1991. His research interests are Tamil manuscriptology, folklore and archaeology. He has published 12 books and among them seven are critical editions on manuscript of ballads. He has written a book on Applied Grammar (2009) for the benefit of B.A. students of Delhi University. He has published research books on "Ayya Vaikundar" (2003), "Nagaraja Temple" (2007), "Jainism in Kumari Nadu: An archeological approach" (2009) and "History of Jainism in Kumari Nadu" (2010). He has completed U.G.C. sponsored major research project on "History of Jainism in Kanyakumari District: Origin, Growth and Downfall". He has published 75 literary and research articles on various research journals in Tamil Nadu. He was the Chief Editor of Sri Venkateswara College Annual Magazine "Neerajana" during the period from 2002-2004.  He was the co-editor of two books containing seminar articles, published by Kaviyarasar Kannadhasan Ninaivuk Kazhakam, University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram.  He has written seven books of study materials for B.A. and B.Com. Students of School of Correspondence Courses, University of Delhi. Six students were awarded M.Phil. Degree from Madurai Kamaraj University under the supervision and guidance of Dr. Vivekananthan. A student of Delhi University is currently doing research for Ph.D. degree on   "Regional Novels of Kanyakumari District".  Presently, he is working as an   Associate Professor of Tamil in the Department.

    Dr. S. Seenivasan was appointed as a lecturer in the department on December, 1992.  His research initially developed in the area of comparative literature and gradually moved towards cultural anthropology to explore new themes in Dalit literature, which he considered to be an emerging field. In the course of study, he felt it was prudent to apply principles of ethnography to Dalit literature to show new light. He has studied his post-graduation and Master of Philosophy in Tamil literature and completed Doctoral Degree in the area of comparative literature in Madurai Kamaraj University, Tamil Nadu.

While he was pursuing post-graduate studies, he developed an interest in comparative literature. Study of Comparative literature offered new vistas and insights on literature. As a result, he has chosen his topic from aforesaid area entitled "A comparative study of early novels in Tamil and Malayalam". He has attended many seminars and conferences conducted by Madurai Kamaraj University, Delhi University and Sahitya Academy. He has written a book of study material for B.Com. Students of School of Correspondence Courses, University of Delhi.  He served as the associate editor of S.V. College annual magazine 'Neerajana' for three years (1999-2001). He participated in two refresher courses in the year 2000 and 2002. While he was a doctoral scholar, he has co-authored a book entitled 'Theories of comparative literature' in the year 1991. He has published Research books on (i) 'Theories of Comparative Literature (1991) (ii) 'Essays on Comparative Literature, Ethnography and Society (2008) and (iii) 'A Comparative Study of Novels in Tamil and Malayalam' (2009). He has edited with historical introduction and fresh analysis of one rare Tamil novel (Vijaya Marthandam 2006), which was written by A. Mathavaiah hundred years ago (1903).

As far as publishing research papers is concerned, so far, he has brought out several research articles in referred journals. During the long journey of teaching, he has an intention to bring modern theories such as Feminism, Dalitism, deconstruction, post-modernism and structuralism into teaching and research, so that understanding of Tamil literature would be enriched. He is working on U.G.C. sponsored major research project on "Dalit Folk Ballads of Southern Tamil Nadu: An Ethnographic study".  Presently, he is working as an Associate Professor in the Department of Tamil.   

Tamil is being taught in the College since 1961 when the College was established. Dr. (Mrs) Kanaga Soundari Mahalingam, popularly known as ''Saalini'' writer of innumerable books and articles, was the first person to be appointed in the Department.

    Dr. V. Subramanian worked as a Lecturer in the Department for more than two decades and expired while in service in the year 1992. His research specialization is Tamil 'Theater and Film Studies'. He published a book on Tamil Cinema, two books of verses and two books of short stories. He won Tamil Nadu State Sahitya Academy award for his research book on Bharathi and Bharathidasan entitled "Vaazhviyal Kavignarkal " (1967). 

    Dr. A. Mariappan was appointed in this College in a permanent position in 1982 and went on promotion as Reader in Modern Indian language and Literary Studies, to the University of Delhi in 1989. He next went to Warsaw University,

Poland as visiting Professor for a period of two years (2007-2009). He participated and presented a research paper in the First World Tamil Classical Language Conference held at Coimbatore in June 2010. Prof.A. Mariappan's research specialization is Modern Tamil Literature, Tamil Folklore and Comparative Indian Literature. He has published three research books on "History of Tamilakam: A Socio-economic perspective", "Socialisa Yathaarthavaatham" and "Nationalism and Tamil Literature". He has contributed a poem to the first collection of Tamil verses entitled "Octopusum neerppoovum". 

    Dr. T. Sethupandian also worked as a Lecturer in this Department for a short while in 1982.Later, he served the Alma Mater and became the Head of the Department of Tamil Grammer.He served as a Tamil Professor in Singapore. He has written more than 100 research articles and four research books. His area of research interest is Tamil Grammar, Language and Linguistics.
The present faculty members of the Department are academically very active. Apart from teaching, the faculty members have been constantly publishing Literary and Research articles in reputed journals and presenting research papers in National level Conferences and Seminars. The teachers of the Department have been publishing books on their research specialization almost every year. Thus the faculty members of the department are highly qualified and are moving forward with soaring visions and missions.
