Department of Tamil

    Tamil is being taught in the college since 1961 when the college was established. Dr. Kanaga Soundari Mahaligam, popularly known as ‘Saalini,’ writer of innumerable books and articles, was the first person to be appointed in the Department. Dr. Sura Subramanian worked as a Lecturer for more than two decades and expired in service in the year 1992. His research specialization was film Studies. Dr. T Sethupandian also worked as a Lecturer for a short while in the eighties. Dr.A. Mariappan, appointed as a Lecturer in this college, moved away on promotion as a Reader in Modern Indian languages and Literary Studies. At present, he is a visiting professor on deputation at the Narsha University, Poland. Dr. Siva Vivekananthan  was appointed in 1991. His area of specialization is Tamil manuscriptology and Folk Literature. Dr. S Seenivasan was appointed as a Lecturer in 1992. His area of specialization is Tamil and comparative Literature. The Department offers courses for the B.A Pass and the B.Com(P),  both at the subsidiary and the elective levels. The Tamil association holds various literary activities every year

Tamil Association Activities: Every year, the Department conducts competitions like essay Writing, Poetry writing, song competitions, Elocution, Rangoli competitions, and short story writing.
